to another world and back

Yuuta held tightly onto Amelia’s hand as they went through the crack. He swore that once they got to his world with Mels and Rory, she would never have to see them again. She would never have to be afraid or feel abandoned or belittled for her ideas or beliefs or things she saw.

“Okay,” he said, looking around. “Where are Mels and Rory?”

Because he was not sure when the crack would close.

And he'd be in her room. Aunt Sharon did not give her the run of the place as he had, but it was still clearly hers. Dolls of every kind were laying about, him. the Doctor. Her. Alphys. Mels. Rory. Frisk. And odd mix of her world and Ruby City. HEr paintings were confined to small (typical art pad/binder sized) white pages taped up all around the room. She had two glasses of water on her night table, and other than her hand made stuff and art supplies being on every desk and shelf like surface, the room was decently neat.

She pulled him to the kitchen and looked at the clock there. "It's night time here, so they'll be sleeping. I can call Mels, she's always the first one to answer the phone, but we'll have to sneak over to Rory's house.

Ah, this was his life now.

Yuuta nodded and followed her down, making note of all that he saw—and to grab some of the dolls that she had made and some of the drawings and paintings of Ruby City. He knew that those were important to her and he did not want to forget either.

“Alright, give her a call. Can I assume you’ve snuck over to Rory’s before?”

Something told him she had.

"Usually he and Mels sneak over here," she said, grabbing the hall phone. Middle of the night, Yuuta who was to her aunt a stranger, in the house, she was using the phone, no one had come to say anything to her.

"Mels, It's Amelia," she said almost as soon as she was done dialing. "Pack a bag and get Rory, you guys need to come here now." A pause. "No, not the Doctor, but I'm going to leave him a note so he can find us. Oh just come on, Mels!" she said, hanging up the phone.

"Mels'll bring Rory, we should go write the letter for the Doctor and pack." But she ran first to the front door, flinging it open to the night before heading upstairs.

Almost makes one wonder how she's survived to be this old as it is.

It did make him wonder, but, things were going to change: she was going to have someone looking after her properly now, and with her best friends and his huge extended family, she would be wanting some time alone. She wouldn’t have to sneak around, she wouldn’t have to cook for herself, and she certainly would not be on her own.

“Alright,” he said. “If it will help, I will leave my address and phone number.”

There might be a version of him in this world, but who knew? Either way, he was sure that his counterpart would understand and forgive himself for any future trouble with the law.

The Doctor would surely know where to look with that information.

“Do you want to pack another suitcase?”

She nodded and raced up the stairs, pounding on them hard as she ran. "I don't know if he knows addresses and stuff, he said he wasn't actually a person. And he keeps a swimming pool in the library. He's kind of funny that way," she said. She grabbed a knapsack and started shoving her dolls and plushies and art into it as best she could, frowning as she crinkled the edges of her paintings.

"I am sure he can figure it out," he said, having a feeling that the Doctor was more than just 'not a person'. There was more to this story, and he hoped that the Doctor would come back and keep his promise to her.

"Here," he said, taking out the artworks and smoothing them down. Grabbing a book large enough, he put them in between the pages. "That should keep them safe."

He hoped her friends thought to pack as well.

She grinned at him. "I hope so. He knew a lot of weird stuff, but about normal stuff, he seemed a bit stupid."

She raced from the room and came back with another suitcase and started just shoving stuff into it the same way as she had been packing the knapsack.

"Here, if we're going to go anywhere, you need to be a little more organized. Then you won't forget something."

But ... he probably would have to finish this one first.

"Grab your clothes from your closet. We can fold them and get more in your suitcases that way."

Trust him. He was a wizard at packing.

"But we don't have time! What if the cracks close up and we can't get back to Ruby City and you're stuck here? You like your family."

She had a good point, but he remained calm.

"Okay. How about we finish up with what we have here and stay by the crack for when your friends come? We'll get there in time."

Something told him it would be alright.

"Just shove stuff in! As soon as they get here, we're going! You can buy us new stuff when we get there." So sure he would, too.

Of course he would! They were going to grow out of things eventually.

"Alright, alright. Maybe keep it light, though. We don't want to get caught up in all this too much."

But, he would make sure that her first suitcase came with them, no matter what. That likely held her most valuable things.

The downstairs door was flung open and there was the sound of running feet on the stairs.

"Good, they're here!"

Yuuta looked up at the sound of feet storming into the room.

"Ah, good," he said, zipping up a last suitcase. "Hello, everyone. I'm Yuuta. Everyone ready?"

Mels dropped her bag to put her hands on her hips. "Ready for what?" she asked, defiantly, clearly not about to move until she got an answer she approved of. Rory was kind of hiding behind herm trying to peek past.

"Did ... Amelia not tell you?" Yuuta asked, looking at Amelia. Oh, dear.

"Well. I am sure that Amelia told you about me, her older brother from another world. That world is fracturing, and Amelia wants to leave this world and come with me to mine. But she does not want to leave you two behind."

"I know who you are, but you're not the Doctor, I thought she was waiting for him, not going off with someone who looks so stupid."

"Mels!" Amelia said, scowling. "We left him a note. So it's okay, right Yuuta?"

“Yes,” Yuuta replied. “For you, at least. But if the two of you are uncertain about coming along with us, then you might not want to come.”

Because who knew what the future would hold for them? Amelia had already made up her mind, was able to make the decision in the first place. These two just got a phone call and made a promise to her who knows how long ago. But they were still very young.

Mels scowled darkly. "I don't think Rory wants to go if it's not the Doctor."

Amelia crossed her arms and scowled just as darkly. "I'm going and that's that."

"If...If Amy's going..." Rory said almost meekly, then he took a breath... "Then... Then I'm going too. But... can't I leave my father a note?"

Amy grinned. "Of course you can, we'll leave it with the note for Aunt Sharon."

Mels sighed. "Then I guess I have to go. If you two leave, who is going to get me out of detention?" She then smirked up at Yuuta. "If you think you can handle all three of us, that is."

Yuuta waited as they discussed it amongst themselves, glad that they were at least thinking over it a little. He would hate for them to regret it afterwards.

But, if they were determined …

“I’m the youngest of four,” he replied to Mels, smirking a bit. “Think you can handle me? Plus, I looked after Amelia for over a year. I got lots of practice.”

Mels snorted. "Amelia isn't anything compared to me. I'm most in trouble of all the school except for boys," she said, proudly.

"Only cause I count as a boy," Amelia said, stubbornly, shoving stuff in her bag again. "Hurry up, Rory, or we'll leave you behind!"

Rory grabbed paper and a coloured pencil and started writing quickly.

"We won't leave anyone behind," Yuuta assured Rory. Between his two stubborn friends, he had a feeling that Rory got steamrolled a lot. He would have to keep an eye on that.

"There is still plenty of time."

Rory glanced over, but clearly didn't believe it.

"so long as the cracks don't close up and trap us here," Amelia said.

"They won't. And if they do, well, I will be on this side with you at least."

Amelia nodded. "You're not going anything without me," she said, flatly. "Packed."

"Everyone all set then?" Yuuta asked. "Are you all certain?"

"Yes," Amy said.

"Well..." Rory said. Mels kicked him. "Yes," he chorused. Mels chuckled.

Yuuta chuckled as well.

"Alright everyone, let's go."

He was not sure what they would face, what kind of ups and downs they would have to go through, but he could promise to look after them. Amelia was like a sister; he did not doubt that her friends would become siblings to him as well.

And regardless, he would always do his best to protect and provide for them. Who knew? They might run into the Doctor in his world.

Amy modded and handed Yuuta all of her bags except her backpack, then grabbed his free hand in one of hers, and MEls's hand in the other. Mels shoved her stuff at Rory then grabbed the back of his shirt.

Yuuta made sure to hold onto Amy and that everyone had a good grip on each other as they headed back into the portal, and then, into his world, moments before everything closed up.

And they went with.
